I first learned to sew at age nine. I started sewing professionally in college with an internship at a local summer Shakespeare festival, and have been sewing professionally ever since. I opened my own studio in 1999 and have been happily working with brides since then. I have an undergraduate degree in Theater Arts, and an MFA in Costume Design from NYU Tisch School of the Arts. I worked for years in theatrical costume shops, and continue to work as a theatrical dresser, mostly with the San Francisco Opera.
Because I work exclusively with bridal and special occasion, I have acquired deep knowledge, experience, and skill in this area.
Catharine Bray is joining me this year, adding her own extensive sewing skills and experience.
Catharine has been sewing since she was child and is a graduate of the Apparel Arts Academy. She was the Wardrobe Supervisor at the American Conservatory Theater, and more recently worked at the San Francisco Opera Costume Studio as an Assistant Draper. She is a professional theatrical dresser, often working on Broadway show tours.
While all fittings and consultations continue to be with me at my studio, Catharine and I now share some of the actual sewing behind the scenes. The quality of our work will remain the highest available, as you’ve come to expect from Kirsten Tucker Designs. We’re thrilled to be working together!
