The first meeting with Kirsten begins the design process where we start to determine the look and feel of the gown or outfit you need for your special occasion. Your preferences, ideas, body-type, the setting of the occasion, and budget are all taken into consideration. Kirsten keeps a large stock of fabric swatches to look at and consider, or she will work with fabric you provide. She will produce a design sketch for your approval based on this meeting, and will take your measurements. From the measurements and sketch Kirsten will make a prototype of the gown using muslin, an inexpensive cotton fabric. At the first fitting, the musin mock-up is fitted over the undergarments you will be wearing with the finished outfit; it is important to have those and shoes early on in the creation process. At the fitting Kirsten will make adjustments for fit and proportion, and we will also finalize decisions about style, such as sleeve length, necklines, and fabric and trim choices. After this fitting, Kirsten corrects the pattern, and cuts and sews your gown from the fabric of your choice with couture techniques. She leaves some seams unfinished and bastes the hem in preparation for the first fabric fitting. This second fitting confirms the fit and trim choices, and is also a good time to try out jewelry and accessory choices. Kirsten is happy to provide assistance with accessories, and to accommodate any special needs you may have. Kirsten then finishes the garment by hand and delivers it to you at the final fitting.
